Desarui Wilson

Business Consultant @ GMC Consultants

When initially meeting Desurai the statement “you have missed your calling, you should have been a comedian” is a common proclamation made by most. Having a sense of humor and a BIG personality has worked to her advantage in maneuvering through the world as an entrepreneur. Desurai Wilson along with her business partner Gloria McGowen are owners of GMC Consultants, LLC located in Houston, Texas. GMC, a woman owned Project Management Company began in 2006 as a disaster recovery and housing relocation service agency; but has now grown into a multi-faceted consulting company. In 2015 GMC was recognized by the Governor of Texas and awarded the Emerging Entrepreneur award for assisting thousands of Texans in its disaster recovery efforts.

Desurai was born and raised in Columbia Maryland, a small suburban community outside of Washington D.C., and is the oldest of 11 children.  Desurai received her bachelor’s degree in History and Secondary Education from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland and studied Community Health Education on a graduate level at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York.  Desurai contributes her success in business to being raised in a family of entrepreneurs who highlighted the importance of education and independent thinking. Before accepting the entrepreneurial call, Desurai worked in the Federal Government space as she served as a project manager for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid under the United States Health and Human Services Commission. Here she was charged with leading several federal health care initiatives.
